EBYDS National Finals 2017 at Melton Mowbray IBC
Sunday October 22nd
This year Hampshire had five young bowlers awarded places at the National Finals of the English Bowls Youth Development Scheme, School of Excellence - Invitation Singles 2017.
Luke Bell and Charlie May from Banister Park, Billy Starks from Victory and Scarlett Keeble and Zachary Miller from Loddon Vale. (Unfortunately Alice Lovett was unable to attend otherwise we would have had six!)
They were competing against the best in England - 32 in all, and we were not to be disappointed in their performance. Both Luke and Zachery reached the semi finals in the singles as the 4th and 2nd top scorers respectively. Luke played the top scorer and beat him 7 – 2, Zachary lost to the 3rd top scorer 2 – 6, putting Luke in the final against a young lad from East Anglia, Sam Brugnoli.
Luke had a brilliant game but lost on the last end. However as runner up this was his first achievement in reaching the National Finals. We can only wait and see what happens in the future!
Zachary came away with the trophy for top Junior on competitive points. All in all they put Hampshire on the map! Not only did we see some wonderful bowling, but their etiquette and good manners were a credit to us all. It was both a pleasure and a privilege to be there to support them.
All credit to the Coaches of Banister Park, Loddon Vale, Victory and Chawton Park who have junior sections, and who are nurturing the future bowlers of Hampshire.
