On 2 May, we will have all-out borough elections alongside all-out parish elections and, pending Parliamentary approval, an election for the Mayor of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.

Candidates and agents’ briefings

We will be holding pre-nomination briefings to provide prospective candidates and agents with information about the borough and parish elections, as well as highlighting the changes introduced by the Elections Act 2022, including voter ID requirements and changes to postal and proxy voting.

The pre-nominations briefings will be taking place:

  • 5:30pm on Thursday 7 March via MS Teams
  • 5:30pm on Tuesday 12 March in the Council Chamber at Rotherham Town Hall, The Crofts, Moorgate Street, Rotherham S60 2TH
  • 6pm on Tuesday 19 March at Aston Joint Service Centre, 42-48 Worksop Rd, Swallownest, Sheffield S26 4WD
  • 5:30pm on Thursday 21 March at Rawmarsh Joint Service Centre, Barbers Avenue, Rawmarsh, Rotherham S62 6AE
  • 6pm on Monday 25 March via MS Teams

If anyone wishes to book a place on the briefing sessions, they can book by contacting Electoral Services at electoral.services@rotherham.gov.uk or by calling 01709 823590.

Nomination Packs

Borough and parish nomination packs will be available from Monday 4 March from Electoral Services in electronic and printed format. The nomination packs can be requested by contacting Electoral Services at electoral.services@rotherham.gov.uk or by calling 01709 823590 stating whether electronic or paper. If you wish to collect a number of packs on behalf of prospective candidates in your parish, please let us know how many you need and if you would like to collect or have them posted.

Submitting Nomination Papers

The Notice of Election for borough and parish elections will be published on Tuesday 26 March 2024

Nomination papers must be delivered by hand to Bailey House, Rawmarsh Road, Rotherham S60 1TD on any day after Tuesday 26 March, Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 5:00pm (excluding bank holidays), but no later than 4pm on Friday 5 April 2024.

We would encourage anyone wishing to hand in nominations papers to book an appointment by contacting electoral.services@rotherham.gov.uk or by calling 01709 823590.

Informal checks of nomination papers

We will be offering informal checks of nomination papers. A copy of a prospective candidate’s nomination paper can be emailed to electoral.services@rotherham.gov.uk for an informal check on a 24-hour turnaround basis. If the prospective candidate is not able to email them, a copy can be posted to Electoral Services, Riverside House, Main Street, Rotherham S60 1AE. Please ask them to include a phone number so we can provide feedback within 24 hours of receiving the papers. Please note, any nomination papers provided for an informal check cannot be deemed as submitted.

Changes to candidate spending limits

The spending limit for candidates at borough and parish elections has recently increased to £960 + 8p per elector and is based on the 1 March electoral register.
