Oakley Ladies were very much the "underdogs" as last evening at Alton BC they took on Cove in the Northern Area Final of the County Fours. The Oakley team of Sue Dixon, Shirley Ball (substituting for Mary Varndell), Angie Rowe and Janie Vickers soon found themselves 1-10 down and, with their very experienced opponents, having played some 80 Johns Trophy matches between them, a come back looked very unlikely. However Oakley fought their way back into the game and with just two ends to play they took a 2 shot lead. A four for Cove on the penultimate end looked to have got the favourites home but somehow Oakley spirited a 3 on the final end to clinch a narrow and exciting victory. The Club's congratulations go to our players and we wish them well when they play in the County Quarter Finals at Banister Park, Southampton on the 3rd July
