Situated, as the Club is, on the Malshanger Estate, it was a delight this morning to go on a Summerdown Farm Tour, where we learnt how the Estate produces the finest English essential oils from the crops grown in the fields, surrounding our bowling. green. We were guided onto farm tracks, fields, (where we saw the rare Badger faced welsh sheep) and along the hedgerows, as Master of Mint, Ian Margetts, talked us through the journey of herbs and explained how diversification has changed the Estate. We visited the on site Distillery, sampled the wonderful Summerdown products and finished up with a cream tea in, for us, the familiar surroundings of the Malshanger Clubhouse. It was a fascinating 3 hours and our thanks go to Ian and Laura who hosted us and to Wendy for organising the event.
