Extreme heat in England including Oxfordshire

No further red or amber weather warnings for heat have been issued by the Met Office.

Weather forecasts

The Met Office issues weather warnings when severe weather is expected. These give an indication of problematic weather that may be on its way to Oxfordshire

Advice in hot weather

The government provides the following advice on how to stay safe during hot weather. Anyone can become unwell if they get too hot. However, some people are at higher risk.

It is important to follow this guidance so that you are prepared for hot weather and can take action to cool yourself and your home. The NHS offers additional advice .

Heatwaves may increase the likelihood of seizures in people with epilepsy. The Epilepsy Society has some useful information on managing epilepsy during heat.

Water safety advice in hot weather

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has water safety advice related to avoiding getting into difficulty in the county’s waterways during the hot weather.

Road and driving conditions

If any roads are affected during this period of extreme heat they will be listed on our road closures in severe weather webpage. National Highways are offering travel advice in hot weather.

School closures

Schools are asked to update this page on the county council's website should they need to close for any emergency reason including flooding . Further information is available on individual school websites.

Household waste and recycling centres

On Friday 26 June, Oxfordshire's household waste and recycling centres (HWRCs) will open at 8am but close early at 1pm due to the heat. Anyone using the HWRC booking system will be made aware of the affected times, and those who have already booked will be contacted directly.
