Extreme Weather Procedures
Additional guidelines to those of Bowls England in case of extreme weather conditions
If the Government issues an Amber or Red Weather warning, any matches should either be rearranged or played earlier or later in the day when the temperatures are usually lower. The health and safety of our bowlers is paramount
If the players wish the match to be rearranged, prior to any changes they must get in touch with their Area Secretary for confirmation.
In addition, in the event a game continues under such a weather warning
- The home Club MUST Provide Plenty of Cool Drinking Water.
- It is also suggested that players ensure they apply a High Factor Sun Cream and wear head covering for their Own Health and Safety
The latest guidance from Bowls England - Inclement Weather Guidance for Bowls England
With the outdoor bowls season now in full swing, we wanted to provide important guidance for both players and officials, particularly in anticipation of warmer conditions.
While common sense should always prevail, the following advice is offered to assist further:
For All Bowls Activity:
- Hydration is Key: Ensure you stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Please avoid dehydrating beverages such as alcohol and caffeinated drinks.
- Seek Shade and Protect Yourself: Whenever possible, remain in the shade. Try to avoid strenuous physical exertion during the hottest parts of the day. Always remember to wear a hat and apply sun cream.
- Consider rescheduling the time of matches to avoid the middle of the day between 11am-3pm and/or reducing the number of ends played (subject to mutual agreement of both parties)
Notes for Clubs, Counties, Players, and Officials:
- This guidance is designed to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
- Decisions regarding playing conditions due to inclement weather should always prioritise player welfare.
We urge all Clubs and Counties to familiarise themselves with the Inclement Weather rules outlined in Appendix F of the Bowls England Rules and Regulations
The following paragraph is taken from Appendix F as stated above.
- County Administered National Championships – all Rounds prior to National Finals A1. All matches are to be played to a finish as referred within the Laws of the Sport V4 – Game Stoppages (Law 33)
2. If it is not possible to conclude play on the day, then the match be completed prior to the next round taking place. If this is not possible, then provided circumstances permit Counties may in their discretion reschedule future rounds to accommodate.
