Please be aware that there are some fake £5 notes doing the rounds. Please ensure you are not duped by visiting the attached link which will help you identify a genuine note.

£5 note | Bank of England.

Please remember it is illegal to knowingly pass on any fake currency. It is a criminal offence to knowingly use, or be in possession of fake notes. The maximum sentence under the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981 is 10 years' imprisonment.

If you suspect that you have a counterfeit banknote, please take it to your nearest police station. The police should fill out an NCO-1 form and provide you with a receipt and incident number. The suspect notes will be sent to the National Crime Agency and if counterfeit to the Bank of England for further examination.
