Clare Peak, Family Action Norfolk Projects Manager gave a few words on the continuing support Family Action in Swaffham are giving at this very challenging time.

Mostly it is phone calls – with people we have supported in the past and know to be vulnerable, to current service users and to new referrals. We are offering emotional support and signposting to the services that are now up and running to support people. There are older people who are isolated and there are young families who are struggling to cope and we are doing welfare checks in person where we need to.

The ESCAPE Allotment is being maintained by our amazing group of volunteers who have 90minute individual slots at the allotment and take their daily exercise there. They have masks and gloves and their own allocated equipment to use. Many of these people are also isolated and many have suffered (and still do) from mental health problems so need to support offered to them at ESCAPE. We are supporting others through telephone support 24/7 and also through our ESCAPE Facebook page.

We now have another Facebook page ‘Family Action Swaffham’ where people can find all sorts of information in relation to staying well through this crisis and also our contact numbers.

Three of us are also screening volunteers for NCC. All have responded (more than 800!) to the call for volunteers and signed up on the Voluntary Norfolk website.

Stay safe and keep well.

Clare
