After much anticipation and frustration, faster broadband has now arrived in Warnford.

The new green cabinet adjacent to the River Lane/ A32 junction has been commissioned, so Warnford has now got “superfast broadband”. In practice the limitations of the “Fibre to Cabinet” technology used by Openreach means that you get somewhere between 40 and 62 Mbit/s for those within a few hundred metres of the cabinet, and progressively less if you are further away. During peak demand times the speed will also drop as it does on all shared lines. This is, however, a big improvement on what we were getting before.

So far this service seems only to have been connected up for those who were paying for BT’s “Faster Broadband” (or equivalent) via the West Meon cabinet – but anyone getting broadband via their phone line should now be able to apply via their Internet Service Provider. If your provider’s website still says the service is not available, contact their helpdesk and tell them to talk to Openreach.
