With the new season only 2 months away, here are a few early dates for your diary:

  • Saturday 14th March - Fish and Chip Supper with Horse Racing - preseason social and fundraiser. (70+ tickets have already been sold and there is a waiting list for anyone else wanting to attend). See Socials and Fund Raising Page.
  • Saturday 11th April - Pre-season Meeting 12 noon to 2. First get together at the green + Official Opening of the Toilet Block at 1pm (the date when the green will be open for bowling will be confirmed)
  • Saturday 25th April - 1st Friendly match of the season at home against Staplecross
  • Sunday 26th April - Open Day when we will be hosting potential new members
  • Thursday 30th April - Fun Afternoon at the green. Test your bowling skills!

For more information/details on these events please have a look at the website or have a word with one of the committee.

In preparation for the new season a lot has already gone on -

  • Brian has been busy delivering and posting membership forms for the new season and a number of you have already returned them. It is good to see so many entries for both the one day and main knock out competitions. The more people that enter the better the competitions are!!
  • The new wall along the bank has now been built (well done Norman, Jim and Mike) and tidies up that edge. SEE SOME GREAT PICTURES IN THE GALLERY (put up by Sue J)
  • Ron has constructed and fitted a very smart replacement gate at the top of the green. (See the Gallery!)
  • Equipment and chemicals have been emptied from the "equipment room" which will make it much easier for us to get set up to play bowls.
  • Our website has been updated with a new "team" entering and updating information. All of the friendly and league fixtures are up + details of all of our club competitions 2020
  • A small team is looking at ways to improve inclusion and accessibility to the green and playing bowls itself - Watch this space for developments.
  • Green preparations are on track despite a few weather challenges!! Mowing and spiking are taking place most weeks. In the Autumn nematodes were applied to attack the crane fly bugs and another application is planned this spring.

Now a couple of Requests

Has anyone got a vacuum cleaner/hoover which is working but no longer needed. The one we have at the club is very tired and not working very well. If anyone has a replacement it would be brilliant and avoid us having to purchase one.

Can you HELP? There is still a lot of work to be done at "the green" getting it ready for the new season. This includes: slab laying/relaying, levelling and top soiling the oak tree corner, sorting and tidying the bowling equipment, cleaning club house, changing room and toilet block, stones behind new wall, replacement fencing from top gate to pavilion (to replace rotting balustrade), tidy/sort container and tin shed, repair ditch edging etc etc.

More volunteers are needed to take the pressure off the existing team. Work can be done on Tuesday mornings or at other times to suit. We are also still short of a couple of brushers.
