Today saw Oakley's Juniors again excel at the National Championships. Nicole Rogers, at lead, and Heather Statham, at skip, were, for the first time, playing together in the National Junior Pairs, played with four bowls over 18 ends. In their first game they came up against Herefordshire and with both Oakley players performing well they had a comfortable victory, their opponents conceding at 18 ends. The next game on the notorious "E" green was less straight forward. With swirling winds and unreliable hands both pairs struggled and although Oakley led 10-9 at 10 ends their opponents, Norfolk, had a 14-15 advantage at 15 ends. The Oakley Pair, however, kept their nerve and three successive singles saw them home to a 17-15 victory and a place in tomorrow's quarter finals where they face the Devon duo of Harriett Stevens and Sophia Tolchard. The Devon Pair both featured earlier today in the National Pairs Final, admittedly on different sides, and with skip Sophie being the 2015 National Singles Champion, Devon start as big favourites. However, in bowls anything can happen so girls go out, enjoy the experience, and show everyone just how good you are.
