Flood Awareness Week 12-19 October
Coombe Bissett Parish Council
Flood Awareness Week is the Environment Agency’s annual campaign to encourage people to prepare for flooding by taking proactive steps such as knowing their flood risk, preparing a flood plan, and signing up for flood warnings.
The Wiltshire Council flood resilience team is presenting Hazard House, which illustrates hazards within the home and interactively demonstrates what can happen when a property is protected against flooding compared with when it is not.
The Hazard House demonstrations are open to the public and will be held in the Atrium at County Hall (Bythesea Road Trowbridge BA14 8JN) on:
- Tuesday 13 October, 10am to 3pm
- Thursday 15 October, 10am to 3pm
The team will also have information available on property flood protection measures and how residents can find out about their flood risk.
Data from the Environment Agency shows that around 6.3 million homes and businesses in England are in areas at risk of flooding from rivers, the sea or surface water – yet polling shows 45% of the public have not looked up the flood risk for their home.
