Request from Maidstone Borough Council:

As you are all aware, fly tipping is an environmental crime that has an impact on the whole of our borough and the lives of the community and residents.

The waste crime team will investigate every fly tip where there is sufficient evidence that will lead to successful enforcement. Where it is possible, the team will also look at prosecution and forfeiture of vehicles that are involved in the offence.

They do though, rely heavily on the support of the public to report instances of fly tipping, but more importantly information that can assist in the identification of vehicles or offenders.

The Waste Crime Team have access to Kent County Council’s Intel Analyst as part of the information sharing agreement who will develop an intelligence package with the information provided to them. They are unable to proceed with any enforcement without the initial information.

The Team is therefore asking for your assistance to pass on any information you may have the Waste Crime Team at WasteCrime@maidstone.gov.uk

Please exercise diligence when disposing of waste or requesting someone to remove the waste for you. You have a legal duty of care to ensure your waste is disposed of correctly, either at a household recycling centre; or by a contractor who is a registered waste carrier, (check here:

Waste Carriers, Brokers and Dealers (data.gov.uk) ) who supplies you with a waste transfer note: Layout 1 (publishing.service.gov.uk)

If you are aware of building works, DIY, house or garden clearances being undertaken, please ask them to remind others of their responsibilities or direct them to: Dispose of household waste - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

This will advise you of everything you need to know in relation to disposing of waste.

With your help, we can ensure the residents of Maidstone dispose of waste responsibly, and where people choose to break the law and fly tip, we can perhaps assist the waste crime team with any information that can help them in taking enforcement action.

Thank you.
