Find out more about this community in:

Over the last year or so we’ve had lots of issues with the footpath which runs to Tesco/Durham Way.

~ Repeated commercial fly-tipping.
~ Youths gather around the bench, sometimes intimidating people.
~ Flooding under the underpass making Durham Way inaccessible.
~ Increasing graffiti.

The association has been raising these issues with the authorities and we are making progress.

We have been assured the area is now included in the community safety warden’s rounds to try and deter activity, gather intelligence, and provide some reassurance to residents.

However, getting the flooding dealt with has been the biggest headache and we eventually went to Essex News who printed an article about our frustration. Soon after publication, the water was drained and we received an email from Essex Council to say, sorry, but a pump cabinet under the underpass was vandalised, causing the pumps to go down and the area to flood.

The council have also recently sent a team to try and remove the graffiti

In view of all these problems we did suggest to Basildon Council that CCTV in the area might minimise all these issues and we can confirm that CCTV now operates near the underpass. We’d like to thank Joy who works for the council for her help facilitating this.
