Free outdoor fun for the whole family

On Sunday 15 September, the Kent Wildlife Trust, Sevenoaks District Council and Sevenoaks Town Council are inviting residents to the free Sevenoaks Greensand Commons Festival.

The festival is suitable for the whole family and activities include traditional woodworking, family forest skills, arts and crafts and even a smoothie bike so guests can make their own healthy drink. The festival is also a great way for residents and visitors to find out more about the Greensand Commons Project to improve local commons for people and wildlife.

The festival takes place between 11am and 3pm at the Letter Box Lane area of Sevenoaks Common and parking is limited so if possible please walk or use alternative forms of transport.

Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet Member for ‘Cleaner and Greener’, Cllr Margot McArthur says: “The Sevenoaks Greensand Commons Festival will be a fantastic, free day out for the whole family. As well as all the fun activities planned, visitors will also be able to learn all about the commons and the improvements being made to them.”

Cllr McArthur adds: “The Sevenoaks Greensand Commons project is carrying out conservation so that whole community can enjoy the commons and we are encouraging our residents to support it in any way they can.”

The festival is outdoors so residents are advised to dress appropriately. To find out more call 01732 227000 or visit www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/commonsfestival

This event is supported by the Heritage Fund, Sevenoaks District Council, Sevenoaks Town Council and other funders, as part of Sevenoaks Greensand Commons Project.

Commons in the Sevenoaks area are some of the most beautiful, wild places in the south-east, but have become overgrown and undervalued. The aim of the Sevenoaks Greensand Commons Project is to reinstate them as important and valued spaces for the local community.
