Friendlies still wait to start!

As the government pushed back Step 4 into the full easing of social distancing then so the desire to start a full calendar of friendlies seems to have waned also. Caution about travelling in shared cars has meant that all of those that should be reported on now were cancelled and the start of the season is still clouded in uncertainty.

That doesn’t mean to say that the Bowling Green is not busy as the County and National Competitions go full steam ahead and the preliminary round of all internal competitions have to be completed by July 1st.

Helen Ellis, Robin Scott and Trevor Newbery defeated another Crediton trio of Christine Rainford, Dick Grant and Colin Ladd in the County Mixed Triples. In the County Men’s Triples the Crediton three of Roy Andrews, Michael Tapp and Lloyd Reynolds defeated a team from Topsham but in the same competition a Topsham grouping defeated Alex Simpson, Trevor Newbery and Roy Andrews.

In the National Mixed Pairs Amy Simpson and Gary Morphett had an excellent win over a pair from Bideford and in the Foxlands tournament Crediton defeated Belmont 52 - 23. This is the competition where 4 play at home at the same time as 4 are on the away rink. Texts between the different groups keep the scores up to date but as the home team were racking up a 30 shot win the result was never in doubt. The next round will be this Friday and this goes on until either defeated or victorious in the Final!

The outstanding performance of the week must go to the members who represented the Club in the County Trophy. 6 rinks were used and the cumulative score of 100 - 63 is taken into the return leg to be played at Topsham on Thursday evening. The scores of the 2 legs are combined to find the overall winner. Topsham are a very strong club and a victory would put Crediton in a very good position to progress far in this competition.
