On tour Harrogate BC came up against more than a South Cliff Bowling Club team. Following a relatively brief thunderstorm in the late morning we were hoping that the afternoon would be kinder in weather terms. How wrong we were.

Six rinks of members – many of whom are social bowlers - prepared to play 18 ends. However, the weather had other ideas and play was delayed for half an hour. The decision was made to aspire to playing 10 ends. Appropriately attired the players started in drizzle which developed into a downpour. The players battled on stoically. The rain ceased for around 20 minutes. With 3 ends to play, Harrogate led on 2 rinks, South Cliff on 2 with 2 being even.

During the post-match tea and biscuits Pauline V thanked Harrogate for a very enjoyable game, despite the weather. The result saw Harrogate run out winners by 58 shots to 41. South Cliff prevailed on 2 rinks, the best rink - Pauline V, Joan B & James M winning 14-4.

Preparation now begins for the Patrons Friendly next weekend.
