After such a narrow win last night in the Thornbery Trophy and, with three of last night's team unavailable. Oakley Ladies travelled this evening to Yateley in the Gazette Cup (a three triples event) with some uncertainty about how the match might go - it being some time since we had played Yateley in a team competition. Oakley, however, shot out of the blocks and after 6 ends led in all three matches and had a 22-5 advantage. The next 6 ends saw Yateley score 18 shots but Oakley managed to increase their lead to 26 shots and by now it was Oakley's match to lose. That never seemed likely, despite a plucky effort from Yateley who kept going until the end, and eventually Oakley ran out winners by 70 shots to 32. Oakley scores: Sue Dixon, Lesley Dumelow and Janie Vickers won 23-13; Mary Varndell, Angie Smith and Alice Lovett won 24-9; Diane Yarrall, Shirley Ball and Laura Butler won 23-10.
