Bassetlaw District Council will be introducing a new kerbside Glass Recycling Collection Service from 30th March 2026. In preparation of this, we would like to share some information with you which will be of benefit to residents in your areas.

The first deliveries of new black bins, which are just for recycling glass, will be distributed across Bassetlaw on a weekly basis, with the first deliveries going out to households in the north-east of the district from Monday 17th November. Bins are due to be delivered to Elkesley week commencing 8 December.

Deliveries are expected to continue up to the end of February 2026 and you can find out when bins will be delivered to your area by visiting our website. Bins will be left outside properties and residents are advised to keep them with their other bins until the first collections begin from 30th March 2026.

Residents can choose to start putting glass in their new 180 litre bins as soon as they are delivered. For comparison, the Black Bins are smaller than your Green and Blue Bins which are 240 litre.

Collections will begin from 30th March 2026 and will take place every six weeks. More information on delivery days for each area will be made available in the new year. However, you can also continue to recycle glass at our existing Recycling Points across Bassetlaw up to this date.

The types of glass that you will be able to recycle in your new Black Bin include: Wine and beer bottles, sauce and condiments jars, cosmetics jars, perfume bottles and medicine bottles. Any other items can be put in your Green Bin or taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centres.

More information about this new kerbside glass recycling service is available here - Black bin for glass | Bassetlaw District Council where you’ll find a list of helpful FAQs and a delivery schedule for the whole of Bassetlaw.

Also, attached to this email is a poster that provides information on this new service and a QR code that links directly to our website. I would be grateful if this could be displayed in any parish or village noticeboards you have access to, or in any prominent location in your community.

These additional collections are being introduced as part of new legislation called Simpler Recycling, which requires all local authorities and waste collectors to standardise and simplify recycling and waste across the country, making it easier for households to understand how to recycle more of their waste and reduce the amount of waste that is either incinerated or taken to landfill.

To further support these changes, a dedicated App will be launched in the new year that will provide key information on things like bin collection days based on where you live, precisely what additional items can be recycled in your blue bin, live updates on any disruptions to our collections, and much more.
