Godshill road improvements - Phase 1 completed in 2 days
LATEST NEWS FROM ISLAND ROADS - Tuesday 3rd November
We are pleased to confirm that Phase 1 of the Godshill scheme is now complete, and the section between West Street and School Crescent has reopened to traffic. This includes access to the school, so we would like to extend our particular thanks to teachers, pupils and parents for their patience throughout this phase of the programme. We have been able to make particularly good progress on this phase due to two main factors: the relatively good weather and the fact that ground conditions we encountered on site were also generally favourable.
This afternoon, we moved on to Phase 2 of the scheme, which is located east of School Crescent and Church Hollow. Please note that the road closure has now moved accordingly.
Yesterday, we carried out a positive joint site walk with Councillor James Whelen and members of Godshill Parish Council. During this, we visited several local businesses to discuss progress and listen to feedback. We would like to thank the councillors involved and hope they found the visit as constructive as we did.
You may also have noticed that we have also had a team from our powered apparatus sections undertaking maintenance work on the streetlights in the village. We are using the existing road closure to do this work, an approach that is designed to co-ordinate our works to avoid future disruption.
We fully appreciate the inconvenience that the road closure is causing for residents and businesses alike and would like to thank everyone for their continued support and understanding as we complete these essential works. This support is appreciated by all of us at Island Roads.
