This was the day we all hope will not happen - the end of the outdoor season. This year, however, was different as our last day featured the delayed Ladies Singles Final as well as the previously postponed Drawn Fours event. Fortunately we had a sunny morning and Sue Dixon and Laura Butler made the most of it as they thrilled the spectators with a high class game with tight heads and the lead changing hands frequently. Neither player had lifted the title previously and the result was in doubt for most of the game but eventually Laura came out on top by 21-18. Laura will now represent the Club in the National Champion of Champions event.

The lengthy Singles Final meant that the Drawn Fours event had a slightly delayed start but no one seemed to mind as by now the earlier chill wind had dropped. Again there was some excellent bowling in what was a round robin competition and it was the rink of Diane Yarrall, Harry Baker, Shirley Ball and Ruth Bown which lifted the title, with Sue Dixon, Sandra Lee, John Yarrall and Laura Butler finishing as runners up.

The green will stay open for a few more days but effectively the season is over and members will now go their separate ways. Some will play short mat at Malshanger, others will play indoors at Loddon Vale or Longmeadow and others will hibernate. There will, of course, be meet ups on the Club Tour to Cyprus, on the County mini tour to Dorset and at social functions but that is it. Winter well everyone
