Good finish to the season by John Armstrong

Great season for Greasley MW Bowls club . We finished our season with the club competition finals on September 15th . An enjoyable day with good weather( why does the weather always seem better in September).

Some close matches with the mens pairs catching the eye as Frank Dorkes and Larry Sevieri triumphed against John alton And Steve Cornish .The watching spectators cheering them on.

John Alton Was to go on to victory in the trips before in the last match of the day taking on the wizard of singles Terry Marriott in the 4 wood singles,better luck next year John.

Refreshments where provided by Hazel and Susan and our thanks go to them and to Geoff Gubson who invested a lot of time and effort to make the occasion memorable.

Our league perfomances this season where very good with two second places and possibly winners of the Afternoon league when results are published .

Our AGM is at the Welfare Dovecoat Road on Tuesday 29th October 7.30pm and our Presentation Night at the Hoggs Head on Friday Nov 29th .More info later.

Its a sad fact but the game of bowls is in decline with clubs closing every year . There is no easy solution but one truth -Unless we attract more players,and Younger ones, -Friends -relations -aquantances into the game the league structures will die and councils will close the greens. Its up to us the players to reverse this situation . The golden age of outdoor sport is dieing to be replaced by online gaming ,dog walking .and mobile phone Zombies.
