Last season Oakley reached the semi final of the County Mixed Top Club but it was a very different team that travelled last night to take on Kingsclere in this year's first game. Only two of last year's team of eleven were playing and there were new representatives in both the singles disciplines, the results of which, as they are the first matches to finish, can have such an important psychological impact on the remaining games. It was to be Oakley that received the boost from the singles picking up both points and although the other three disciplines were close games the match was decided when the Oakley triple also came out on top and Kingsclere conceded the match. Oakley scores: Claire Flannigan won 21-10; Martin Vickers won 21-14; Steve Devonish, Laura Butler and Sean Lassman won 19-15 and when the game was conceded Diane Yarrall, Shirley Ball, Malcolm Grime and Graham Tompkins were leading 18-17 with 3 ends to play whilst Christine Williams and Ric Newson trailed 10-16 with 2 ends left.

In the next round Oakley are home to the winners of Alton and Basingstoke Town.
