The Parish Council is seeking the views of residents, businesses and stakeholders on a proposal to install new road signage at key locations within Guiting Power.

Background

There has been a noticeable increase in the volume of visiting traffic through the village unfamiliar with ‘pinch points’ and danger areas together with increased pedestrians.

There are no active plans by Gloucestershire County Council to implement a mandatory 20mph limit in the village. Only 12 of 200 villages will be completed by end 2027.

In the absence of imminent legal 20pmh limits, the proposal is to implement interim solutions for the three entry roads to highlight to visiting drivers they are entering the village and encourage them to restrict their speed.

Aims

  • Create prompts for visiting drivers/riders to moderate their speed as they move through the village
  • Improve overall pedestrian safety

Proposal

There are 3 components to the proposal:

  1. GATES: Replace two existing rusting village signs and metal posts with white gates and new signage (Dyers & Winchcombe entry roads) and install new gate and signage in Tally Ho Lane
  • Creates initial visual prompt for visiting drivers
  • High longevity recycled white plastic
  • Upgraded signage incl. CCTV/ Neighbourhood Watch

  1. 20 IS PLENTY: Implement ‘20 is Plenty’ road signage and attach to selected existing signposts
  • Creates additional awareness on approach to centre of village
  • High quality metal signage
  • Advisory speed limit only
  • No additional posts required

  1. 10 MPH: Implement new ‘10 mph’ road signage and attach to existing signposts for selected roads
  • Church Lane (past school)
  • Well Lane and
  • Castlett Street
  • Creates awareness of narrow cul-de-sac roads

Funding

Total Cost estimates are £3,000 - £4,000 for all three proposals to be implemented. No grants are available so costs would come from existing Parish Council budget.

Your Views Matter

Feedback from residents will help the Parish Council determine whether either proposal should proceed, be amended or not taken forward.
