On Saturday 22nd April, an intrepid band of seventeen gentlemen and one good lady from Malmesbury travelled to Haydon Wick. The weather was variable, starting off warm for April but then cooling down rapidly.

The hosts at Haydon Wick were very hospitable, providing a sumptuous sandwich buffet and a half-time tea and biscuit break. We would like to extend our thanks to them, as well as to Steve Caygill for capturing some great photos, which can be found in the gallery at http://www.mbasc.online/community/malmesbury-bowls-and-social-club-9981/haydon-wick-2023/

Despite the challenging early-season, heavy grass green, Malmesbury managed to secure a one-shot win. Some of our players adapted particularly well to the conditions, while others found it more of a challenge. Overall, it was a great match played in a friendly and sporting manner by both teams.

The scores on the doors were

  • Pete Young 24-10
  • Tom Wilkes 16-8
  • Roger Pope 19-12
  • Roy Wilcox 14-22
  • Albert Parker 6-26

Overall it was Malmesbury 79 Haydon Wick 78
