The Friday night Football League, held over 10 rounds of matches, reached its climax on Friday 11th August and it produced an exciting finish. The evening began with Aston Villa in second place needing to win by a big margin if they were to threaten Tottenham's place at the top. They also needed Tottenham to lose to bottom club Southend United, the wider the margin the better.

It started well for Villa who raced into an early 3-0 lead against Arsenal and they eventually ran out comfortable 6-1 winners. With their match finished, they knew that any margin of defeat for Tottenham would be enough to secure them the title on goals scored. Southend, despite their lowly position, came within inches of snatching a winning goal on the final end but Tottenham managed to hold on for the draw which gave them the title.

This has been an excellent competition, enjoyed by members for the competitive edge but also for the friendly spirit in which it has been played.
