The office has confirmed that 22 homes received letters notices today for hedges that are above the permitted height. Residents have been asked to cut their hedges back by 5 January. If they are still over height after that date, contractors will be brought in to do the work, and the cost will be recharged to the resident.

A few people have said they feel the company is being a bit over the top, and some have mentioned that Mrs Purcel allowed taller hedges 30–40 years ago. So we wanted to explain why this is happening now.

Like every park home operator, Regency must hold a valid site licence in order to run Dunton Park. That licence is issued by the council, and it sets out the rules Regency is legally required to follow. Whatever may have been allowed decades ago isn’t relevant today - the current licence clearly states that any fence or hedge separating homes must be 1 metre or less. If Regency doesn’t enforce that, they risk action from the council’s licensing officer.

So this isn’t something they’re doing to be difficult; it’s a legal requirement tied to their ability to operate the site, and ultimately it’s about our safety.
