Oakley's first game, this season, in indoor team competitions did not go well. Looking to reach the final of the Loddon Vales IBC Ambler Fuller Trophy, for the eighth successive year, the Oakley rink of John Yarrall, Diane Yarrall, Sean Lassman and Bob Goodyear slumped to a comprehensive 7-25 defeat against Old Basing, so making very difficult the chances of qualifying for the semi-final in this round robin competition
At Longmeadow IBC, it was, however, a different story as the club began its campaign in the two rink Moreton Cup. Drawn again against Old Basing, this time it was Oakley that triumphed cruising to a 47-31 victory. Oakley scores: Steve Devonish, John Ryan, Martin Vickers and Bob Goodyear won 31-11, Malcolm Grime, Sean Lassman, Graham Tompkins and Fred Norris lost 16-22
