The new year was not always a happy one for the club. The Kops started very brightly, but in what was very much a month of two halves, they finished poorly (although against very tough opponents). The Robbers had three matches, but didn’t really start at all….

The Kops began well with a 6-0 (42-25) home win against Highcliffe Knights. This was followed by a good two points at Stalbridge Harriers in a 2-4 (29-35) loss, and maximum points were again earned at home with a comprehensive 6-0 (48-30) win over Charlton Marshall in Division 2 of the Blackmore Vale League.

So far, so good, but if you only enjoy hearing about wins then please stop reading now!

While the Kops were winning at home against Charlton Marshall, the Robbers had a trip to Gillingham to face the Gulls. A 2-4 (40-43) loss was not a bad result against a potential promotion rival.

This was followed by an away fixture at Oakapple. Del Way’s triple started well and led by several points, but their opponents came back to win 20-14. John Beckford’s four were always close in a game which could have gone either way, but finally lost out by one shot. The result was a 0-6 (23-30) loss.

The Kops then had three very tough away matches, losing all. They went down 2-4 (29-32) at Hazelbury Barons, 0-6 (24-49) at Templecombe Bees, and 0-6 (19-42) at Hazelbury Bryan.

Saving the worst for last, 31st January 2020 will be remembered by many for Brexit, but will hopefully be forgotten by the Robbers, as our rather painful exit from Stalbridge Hawks was definitely hard rather than soft!

Trailing at the 10 end changeover by 5-11 on one mat, and winning 11-9 on the other, we felt we had good chances. We’re not sure what was put in the tea, but those two mat scores finished as 5-32 and 12-26. Final score 0-6 (17-58). Yes, that’s right - we only scored one shot after the break between both mats. They scored 38.

Roll on February….
