We are saddened to announce that Barry Athletic bowling legend, Jim Morgan passed away recently. Jim joined Barry Athletic in 1961 and soon became a regular first team player, remaining in the team for the next 40 years.

Playing with 3 other young and talented Barry players at the time - J.R. Evans, Ron Thomas and Gareth Humphreys, success as a rink soon followed in the Welsh and British Championships. Indoors and further outdoor Welsh and British titles soon followed, and Jim was selected to play for Wales in 1972.

Jim won Bronze in the pairs at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada, and in 1982 he again represented Wales in Brisbane, Australia. The 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh saw possibly Jim’s greatest triumph when he skipped the Welsh rink to the Gold medal.
