5. Over the Early May Bank Holiday, the Beltain festival took place at Butser Ancient Farm near Queen Elizabeth Country Park. With two thousand visitors it was soon throbbing with traditional folk music, the pungent aromas of hog roasts, and copious quantities of rough cider or real ales being quaffed. We had all come to join Druids, Pagans, Morris Dancers, drummers and Saxon warriors to witness the burning of the wickerman. After enjoying good food, entertainment and buying keepsakes, the evening culminated with the burning of the 40 ft high, wickerman. The burning signifies the beginning of summer and is intended to appease gods and ensure fertility or a good harvest. The early ancient tradition also included a human or animal sacrifice within the wickerman. Thankfully all two thousand visitors left in one piece!

1. A painting party will be required to finish off the container workshop and the interior of the perimeter fence. We had a great start just before the bank holiday as you can see below; however, it still requires members to come forward and help complete. You can see what a transformation it is. Please contact one of the Committee members if you can help.

2. We are investigating the main building replacement windows with double glazed. If any member has any ideas of suppliers that may be able to assist again, please contact a committee member.

3. I’m afraid the old chestnut has arrived again. Please, a reminder to clear up after you have completed your work. The band saw in particular needed time clean before a member could commence their work.
