Fancy a game of bowls?
Changes to national guidance from 4 July may provide us with an opportunity to run an ‘in-house’ game. Although we will have to stay outside for most of the time. This will allow us to test a number of systems, with a view to running further games and then possibly offering a limited number of friendly fixtures in the future.
Triples
We are planning a triples event to be held on Saturday 18 July from 2.00 pm.
The maximum number of players allowed will be 18 so that social distancing in groups of 6, will be feasible. All national, local and bowls related advice and guidance concerning how to reduce the risk of possible infection will be applied. The match fee will be £3.00 and this will entitle you to two drinks from a very limited bar, served before and then after the game. No food will be provided.
If you wish to be involved in this game then please give your name to Derek Squire either by phone 01666 823482 or e-mail - maryderek@btinternet.com.
Derek Squire will compile a list, including reserves, and pick balanced rinks on the day. If we have more members interested than space allows then you will have priority on a future occasion. Further details will follow.
Shirts
Only a few members have requested a new shirt so far and this makes ordering impractical at a sensible price. John Smith is now exploring the possibility of placing a minimum order in range of sizes. Names would have to be added independently at a later date.
New Bowler
Malmesbury welcomes Joanna Le Maitre to the club. We hope that we will soon get the opportunity to meet her and that she enjoys her time with us
Green Maintenance
Due to a couple of the members of the maintenance team suffering from physical injuries (bad back and torn tendon) we are a little short handed. We have three teams, two people in each, so one week on and one week off normally. It needs two people on at a time to make it easier, usually going down to the club a couple of times each week to clean off egret droppings, vacuum the green or blow the leaves off as necessary depending on the weather. Vacuuming cannot take place when the green is wet.
If there are any club members who are willing to help out please get in touch with Roger Pope on 01666 822956.
PS We have just taken delivery of a new leaf blower! See the photograph.
Trees
We still aim to reduce the volume of leaves and other detritus from the nearby trees. We may not be able to tackle those on the opposite bank for a while yet but we do intend to prune the large tree that is growing on our own land. Watch this space!
Green Booking
It is still possible to make use of the new green at most times of the week as it is not busy at present.
