No worries about the rain when the Keith Gardner Shield was contested at the club on the gloriously sunny and warm afternoon on Sunday 24th May.

This competition is unique in the club calendar as it is the only round-robin tournament on the card. It is also well suited to all members as competitors are seeded and drawn into mixed teams of all bowling abilities making for some interesting games.

In the event, six teams of triples battled it out over 5 games with shot differences as high as 11 in some games making for an unpredictable outcome in the competition organised by Treasurer, Peter Yates.

The afternoon climaxed when, by a quirk of fate, the two highest scoring teams happened to be drawn together in the final game of the day. The leading team after the penultimate game comprised Geoff Wills, Nick Mitchell and Jo Cohen who took on second placed Tony Swales, Marilyn Fletcher and Steve Crozier.

The bookies would have lost a lot of money if betting had been allowed as Geoff’s team, which had not lost a game all afternoon, were trounced by 8 shots allowing Tony’s team to walk away with the trophy at the last gasp. Luckily there were prizes for the runners up so Geoff, Nick and Jo didn’t walk away empty handed after their hard work.

Our photograph shows President Don Davies awarding the prizes.
