it's been a busy week for Bovey Tracey bowlers beginning with the county competitions. In the Ladies Triples at Starcross, Sarah Breame, Sue Johnson and Heidi Call won their semi final narrowly against Newton Abbot, progressing to play Dawlish Marina in the final which they won to become Section 5 winners and go on to play the winners of Section 2 at Marldon. Sarah was also successful in her first ever Ladies 2 Wood Singles match, winning 14-11 against Isobel Burley of Newton Abbot. Tyler Smith and Sue Johnson narrowly lost by one shot in the Mixed Pairs at Newton Abbot but in the Burma Star Mixed Triples at Bitton Park, Tyler, Sue and Heidi Call won their match fairly comfortably.
Bovey's men played their first Mid Devon League match of the season at Marldon, which is always a tough challenge and so it proved with the hosts winning all four rinks to gain 14 league points to Bovey's nil.
In the men's Foxlands competition in which one rink plays at home and one away, Bovey recorded an excellent win against strong opposition from Abbrook Park, winning 21-14 at home and 19-9 away.
Bovey's Men's Over 55s X team continued their promising start to the season at The Den, Teignmouth winning 26-15, losing 15-21 and taking the overall win by 6 points to 2, to leave them top of their division. The Y team were home to Shaldon, also winning one rink 13-11, losing the other 11-18 and gaining 2 points to Shaldon's 6.
Three mixed friendly matches were played during the week. At home against Abbrook Park, Bovey won by three rinks to one and by 62 shots to 57. Away at Okehampton in a six rink triples match, Bovey won two rinks, drew one and lost three but won by five shots overall. And in a home triples match against Newton Abbot, they won one, drew one and lost two rinks with the visitors winning by 14 shots overall.
