It was a disastrous start for Oakley in this morning's Gazette Cup match against Basingstoke Town. Dropping a 7 on the first end of Janie Vickers' rink, Oakley, after just 4 ends, were already trailing by 15 shots with Janie's rink losing 1-13. Amazingly Janie then scored a 4 and a 7 but with Alice Lovett's rink 2-10 down Oakley, at halfway were still 12 shots adrift. Gradually Oakley pulled back, at one stage reducing the deficit to just 3 shots but the 15th end proved to be critical with Town picking up a total of 7 shots and moving on to a comfortable win. Oakley scores: Mary Varndell, Angie Rowe and Alice Lovett lost 13-20; Shirley Ball, Sue Dixon and Janie Vickers lost 22-25; Diane Yarrall, Laura Butler and Ruth Bown lost 13-17.
