Today saw Oakley BC staging their first one day event of the season - the Drawn Two Wood Pairs with the opportunity to collect at the Club Dinner the prestigious Malshanger Bowl, donated by Sir Michael and Lady Colman. With teams divided into two leagues, there was some close games and a few surprise results. In the Blue League it was Hugh Aherne and Jim Dixon who qualified for the final with 8 of out 10 possible points. The Red League, however, was so tight with two pairs finishing on 6 points and Shirley Goodwin and Bob Goodyear sneaking into the Final because their shots difference was just one better. The final was a nail biter with Shirley and Bob leading by 2 shots as the final end began. With his last bowl Bob drew shot and looked to have clinched the game but a fine take out from JIm, with the last bowl of the match, saw Hugh and Jim score the necessary 3 to lift the title. Congratulations to both finalists, to all who participated and to those involved with the organisation. The event was concluded in 4.5 hours and we were on the way home by 2pm.
