Hello everybody,

I’m writing from the local Wildlife Trust (specifically the Watercress and Winterbournes project that is very active in the Alresford, Overton, Whitchurch, and Andover area).

We have two free activities this summer that may be of interest to the community.

Firstly, we are running a poetry competition for 7-18 year olds on the theme of chalk streams.

It is free to enter, and winners will receive up to £75 in National Book Tokens and have their poem published in a commemorative booklet.

The competition closes on 31st July.

To help young people with entering the competition, we have a free Poetry Activity Guide that can be downloaded from our website (link below). This has information and exercises to spark inspiration, and ties in nicely with the national curriculum for English.

Secondly, we are holding a literature festival in June on the theme of rivers. The events, which are all free, include talks by prominent authors, and writing workshops for children and adults. The events are spread across Alresford, Overton, Whitchurch, and Andover.

Further information about these activities is available on our website – both are called ‘Tales from the Riverbank’.
