Westgate-on-Sea Town Council Retain Division of Assets

At the Margate Charter Trustees meeting last night (September 11th 2017) Westgate Town Council retained their full share of the assets that were assigned to them when the town council was created in 2015.

The meeting was called after Margate resident Mr James Brazier questioned the ‘over generous’ payment of £30,000 to the new council, claiming £11,000 would be more realistic.

The meeting was held at Thanet District Council offices on Cecil Street and was an open public meeting of which the Charter Trustees, old and new, along with members of the public took part in a lively debate.

The Charter Trustees discussed whether or not to reclaim some of the settlement.

Westgate Town council chairman Tom King informed the meeting that the findings of the meeting and any attempt to reclaim would be resisted.

The meeting moved to the vote and a decision not to proceed with a claim was unanimously passed.

The Westgate Town Council looks forward to working with the Charter Trustees in the future.
