Medway Local Plan Update January 2019

Medway Council is producing a new local plan to shape the future of our area up to 2035. This includes sites for new housing, employment and services, as well as areas to be protected from development.

Members of the public can view the Local Plan Update Report we have published outlining the progress on the plan.

You can read the comments made in 2018 on the last stage of consultation on the plan at Local Plan Consultation Responses

We have updated the timetable for the local plan, and will be publishing a draft plan for consultation in the summer of 2019. Further details are in the Local Development Scheme.

Consultation on Statement of Community Involvement

The Statement of Community Involvement sets out how the Planning Service will consult and engage on planning policy and development management matters. The council has updated the 2014 document to clarify how we support local groups preparing neighbourhood plans. We welcome comments on this updated document. Comments must be received in writing by 5pm on Friday, 22 February 2019 and can be submitted in a number of ways:

Email: futuremedway@medway.gov.uk

Online: Statement of Community Involvement Consultation

Post: Planning Service, Regeneration, Culture, Environment and Transformation, Medway Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, ME4 4TR

Local Plan Evidence Base

We have also published a number of documents that form part of the evidence base for the new plan:

Medway 2035 Regeneration Strategy

Medway Green Belt Assessment

Medway Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment 2018

Medway Heritage Strategy (draft)

The council welcomes comments on the draft Heritage Strategy. Comments can be submitted up until 5pm on 22 February, using the methods shown above.

Thank you for your interest in Medway's future. For further information on the local plan you can email or write to us at the address above or phone 01634 331629.
