This evening Oakley's Men travelled to Alton for their first visit to the excellent new facilities and green at Alton Social. No one was sure what to expect and it was quite a surprise to arrive and find not the expected green swarth but a brownish surface..As was to be expected with a new surface (and this was the first time play had taken place in that direction) the green was heavy and with plenty of runs but Oakley settled well and with Ted Brown's rink racing out of the block led at 5 ends by 14 shots. By 10 ends, however, Social had reduced the deficit to just 3 shots and five ends later had taken a 5 shot lead. In a topsy turvey game Oakley came again and at 19 ends led by 4. Sadly a dropped 6 on the 20th end was to be Oakley's undoing and Alton Social ran out winners bt 42 shots to 38.. Oakley scores: Ric Newson, Dave Harrison, Bob Goodyear and Ted Brown won 26-23, Ashley Nethercliffe, Malcolm Grime, Spencer Kerley and Fred Norris lost 12-19
