Yesterday evening's County Club Championship match between Oakley and a strong Cove team, many of whom are experienced Middleton Cup players, proved to be a one sided affair. Even with home advantage, Oakley never left the blocks and, although Bob Goodyear's rink were in front, Oakley, by 4 ends were trailling 23-7. By 12 ends any faint hopes of a comeback had been distinguished as Cove led by 56-25 and at 16 ends the game was conceded with a 70-36 victory for Cove. Our congratulations go to Cove and thanks for the bowling lesson.
Oakley scores: Jamie Fewtrell, Paul Hammond, Fred Norris and Steve Devonish lost 23-6; Richard Startin, Peter Pearce, Ric Newson and Graham Tompkins lost 19-4; Spencer Kerley, John Ryan, Rolf Denny and Sean Lassman lost 20-10; Hugh Aherne, Jim Dixon, Malcolm Grime and Bob Goodyear won 16-8.
