Message From Councillor Thomason-Kenyon
As referenced in my May Cornwall Councillor report, I continue to review concerns raised regarding the switch-off of street lighting at midnight. Following my recent update, a resident in Constantine got in touch to raise a specific concern about lights already being switched off in their area and the potential impact locally, particularly given the steep hill and the number of elderly residents nearby.
I am always grateful when residents take the time to share their experiences with me, as this kind of direct feedback is essential in helping to build a clear and evidence-based understanding of how these changes are affecting communities in practice. It also helps ensure that concerns can be identified and discussed at an early stage, allowing for a more joined-up and supportive approach between Cornwall Council and the Parish Council wherever possible.
This is an issue that continues to be raised more widely, and is currently being considered more broadly by a group of councillors of which I am a member, with a focus on understanding the impact on residents. I am actively working to ensure that local concerns, particularly those relating to community safety, are properly reflected within those discussions.
I would strongly encourage residents to take part in the short survey (link below), as gathering local feedback and data will help ensure that the views and experiences of our communities are clearly represented.
