Miss Saigon
This week’s challenge was an easier one as I went to the Cinema with my Mum to watch the 25th Anniversary Gala Performance of Miss Saigon, a musical I had meant to visit on many occasions but never got round to it.
It was great to be able to see the faces of the actors/singers up close and wow could they act, and sing! Their performances were amazing and transported the audience into a world of war with all the turmoil, drama, sounds, images and challenges of a small war torn island, with its people caught in the middle.
Running over the top of this was a love story that tore at the heart strings and took you on an emotional roller coaster of fun, laughter, love, despair, longing and heartache. The songs were extremely powerful and on occasions made me cry, especially being a mother of a son who one of the main characters wanted to protect!
The additional songs at the end of show and the addition of the original cast from the first show 25 years previous were good fun and showed a real compassion and camaraderie between the two sets of cast members who performed together – brilliant!
However, I felt emotionally drained after the show and although I enjoyed it – Les Miserables still remains my favourite musical of all time.
