It has been a mixed few days for Oakley Ladies in County and North Hampshire Competitions. In the North Hampshire Women's Bowling Association 2 Wood Singles Competition (known as the Dolly Anstey Trophy) played at St Mary Bourne congratulations go to Laura Butler who won 3 games (two against St Mary Bourne players) to qualify for the Final to be held at Farnborough on 5th September. Laura will play Sue Lake from St Mary Bourne and the club wishes her the best of luck

Fortune, however, did not favour Oakley in the two County Northern Area Finals played this week. Yesterday at Fleet United, Janie Vickers took on Cove's Jan Allen looking to cement a place in the County Last Eights. It was not to be Jan settled quickly into the game and Janie struggled to find the pace on the short Fleet United green and hard as Janie tried she never managed to produce her normal level of performance going down to a 9-21 defeat. There was also disappointment tonight for Mary Varndell and Sue Dixon in the Area Final of the Pairs played at Hook. Up against Diane Timms and Carol Gooderich of Whitchurch they trailled 5-12 after 10 ends only to rally and lead 16-12 after 15 ends. Sadly, however, the rally petered out and although Oakley were only one shot down playing the last end they were unable to manage what would have been an excellent victory in their first season of playing together.
