Watercress and Winterbournes is a Landscape Partnership Scheme which is protecting, enhancing, and celebrating the seven chalk streams that feed the Rivers Test and Itchen. With a five-year span (2020 - 2025) and over 20 distinct projects, the scheme aims to secure the future of these precious places. The Pillhill Brook is lucky to be one of these projects led by Maggie Shelton who many of you may have met.

Working in collaboration with the Riverfly Partnership’s Angler’s Riverfly Monitoring Initiative (ARMI) the Watercress and Winterbournes is looking for volunteers to help carry out riverfly monitors along the Pillhill Brook.

Normally done in pairs the Watercress and Winterbournes will train and supply you with all the kit you need free of charge. The training course is one day and normally held locally. Once you haver competed the training course you will be covered by the Watercress and Winterbournes liability insurance. To be an active Riverfly Monitor only requires you to volunteer for a few hours every month. If you are interested in learning more about the health and ecology, why not become a Pillhill Brook monitor?

To find out more about what’s involved join the Watercress and Winterbournes online event on Being a Chalk Stream Champion on Thursday 22 June 7 - 8pm.

If you are interested in becoming a Chalk Steam Champion for the Pillhill Brook then please contact Maggie Shelton maggie.shelton@hiwwt.org.uk or Janet Wright wright.janet@btinternet.com.
