MORE ADVICE SOUGHT ON BECK DUCKS PLAN

An ornithologist is to be consulted for advice before the idea of reintroducing ducks on Bishop Monkton Beck is taken any further. More than nine out of ten people voted in favour of the idea in a poll conducted in July on the village Facebook Group.

Now the village’s Flood Action Group, which conducted the poll, has decided that professional advice is needed on a number of issues raised by the plan to bring ducks back before a definite decision can be made. These include:- the number of ducks; their location; where they would be housed and fed; the risk from predators and traffic; and whether a duck keeper would be needed.

Ollie Clarkson, from the Group, said:- “Before we go ahead we need to get professional advice so that we can make sure the plan will be sustainable and successful.”

Once the advice has been received, the Group will feedback to the Parish Council.
