MORETON CUP DISAPPOINTMENT

This morning at Longmeadow IBC, Oakley took on the Atherley Club from Southampton in the Moreton Cup. The morning began well with Ted Brown's rink racing into a 9-0 lead after just 3 ends and after 5 ends Oakley led by 13-8 over the two rinks. At half way Oakley remained in front leading 20-17 but ends 10 to 15 were disastrous with Oakley failing to pick up a single shot whilst Atherley recorded 24 so leaving Oakley a mountain to climb. The next three ends saw Oakley pick up just a net 3 shots and the writing was now on the wall and Oakley went down to a 32-55 defeat. Oakley scores: Martin Smith,Trevor Wearn, Dave Harrison and Ted Brown lost 14-27, Dave Clewer, Eric Lamkin, Duncan Wilkins and Bob Goodyear lost 18-28.
