Whilst the August heatwave had most of us seeking the shade, our very own MP Huw Merriman set off into the sunshine to embark on his Cycling Constituency Tour. Throughout August he is hoping to visit as many local businesses as possible, meeting those who are working hard to keep local High Streets alive and buzzing.

On two wheels, Huw aims to say hello to those open for business in the 200 square miles of East Sussex that he represents. Stopping for the occasional tea, he was also on hand to offer support to our dedicated business owners, whilst helping to promote the wonderful services these individuals are providing.

A number of local business owners warmly welcomed Huw on his travels through Battle High Street and Netherfield, including BRITISH Design BRITISH Made, The Honesty Hub, Battle Abbey, The Crafty Norman, Frenchs Fish and the team at Netherfield Stores. These, plus so many more businesses are working tirelessly to keep our beautiful High Street working for the community and visitors alike. His travels have been documented on the Huw Merriman MP Facebook page, where you might see some familiar faces.

If you are a local business owner and require additional support, Battle Town Council are offering post Covid-19 recovery grants of up to £500 to those who are eligible. For more information on how to apply please see the Battle Town Council website. The Council is also encouraging local businesses to take part in the ‘We’re Good to Go’ initiative, an industry wide mark that help reignite confidence in our local services.

Thank you to all of the wonderful local Businesses helping to serve our community.
