We have been advised that KCC will be commencing some ground investigation work for the North Thanet Link scheme next week (from 29th April). This will be taking place at various locations along the proposed route for approximately one month.

The investigatory work will involve drilling and digging small areas of farmland to test ground/soil/drainage properties. Please note that is a normal part of the highway design process for a major scheme and is necessary to inform environmental impact studies and the future planning application for the scheme. Traffic management will be placed in certain locations to facilitate access to the fields.

Please be assured that these investigatory works do not constitute the commencement of the scheme construction, it is simply to inform the ongoing design and environmental impact work. From recent local social media activity, it seems that some people are suggesting that the council has already commenced the construction of the scheme, which it can clarify is factually incorrect. Please note that the progress of ground investigation could be impacted/delayed by any inclement weather conditions.

If local stakeholders require further information about the forthcoming works or scheme, the email address for any queries is norththanetlink@kent.gov.uk
