In 2016 Swaffham Town Council agreed to work in collaboration with the St Peter & St Paul’s Church to resurrect the Church Gates.
Having been removed some time ago a local contractor, Peter Garner was commissioned to restore the gates and to build the new side pedestrian gates, this allows access to the public when the main gates are locked. A new wall was built by the Council to house an additional side section of the gates.
After a period of some months the new gates were completed in time for the arrival of the new vicar, Janet Allan.
Another great example of positive collaboration by Swaffham Town Council and local Swaffham groups; the historic restoration will no doubt see the gates remain for another 100 years. …
